Double Take: GH

It has been a year of look-alikes on General Hospital, from Sarah Joy Brown (ex-Carly) finishing her run as Claudia, to Natalia Livingston (ex-Emily) being cast as Rebecca. There was even an episode that featured Luke and Ethan look-alikes in the form of Link and Evan, replacements hired by Tracy who she jokingly referred to as re-casts. With all these doubles, one might assume that General Hospital would avoid doppelgangers for a while, but one would be wrong. Obviously the show could not let the year slip by without the inclusion of yet another counterpart, and Rebecca's exit provided the perfect opportunity for that.

It is not that I dislike the way Rebecca was written off the show, in fact I think bringing Chad Brannon (ex-Zander) back was an excellent way to facilitate this exit. However, I think this would have been a bit more entertaining and would have seemed more clever if Brannon wasn't the third actor in recent history to return to the show as a different character. It seems that General Hospital has taken what used to be a traditional soap staple,"the double" and turned it into a running joke with the audience. And like all jokes this one does not benefit from repetition.

  1. I thought the scene at the end with Chad Brannon was very charming and the dialogue excellent. Rather than saying he reminded her of someone else, he pointed out her eyes. In essence, Rebecca finally became her own identity.

I was disappointed that Rebecca didn't spill the beans mainly because I just want the Liz/Lucky/Nicholas storyline to end (she certainly did give Liz a hard look before she left, though).

I read on a GHH spoiler that Liz is supposed to have a breakdown, so I guess things are only calm for now.

  2. Hi Paula,

I did like the fact that Rebecca was able to leave town as her own person because at least now it seems the character is going to be happy. One thing missing from her departure was that she never told Ethan she was leaving town and I think that might have been more interesting than seeing her have it out with Liz at the hospital yet again. I think everyone knew that wasn't going to amount to much because obviously Lucky isn't going to find out about the affair anytime in the near future. Like you, a part of me does wish that Rebecca had told Lucky about Liz's affair because I am so ready for him to find out. On the other hand, I think by her not being the one to tell Liz's secret it allowed her to leave town as the bigger person. As for Liz having a breakdown I think that is very likely. She already seems on the verge of losing her mind at this point anyway, but I have to say I am not ready to feel sorry for this character. And I hope that they are not trying to make the viewers sympathize with her right now. If that was their goal on Friday's episode it didn't work, at least not on me because after seeing her and Rebecca at the hospital yesterday it is obvious that Liz is shameless when it comes to protecting her secret.

All About Mia: DOOL

After months of allowing herself to be deceived and manipulated by Nicole and Stefano so that she could keep her baby's adoption intact, only to find out that said baby wasn't hers because her baby had died, one would think that Mia would have enough drama to last a lifetime. Instead it seems that she has picked up a few bad habits from Nicole because she has turned to manipulating Gabi in order to stake her claim on Chad, someone she didn't seem to want a few weeks ago. As if the Mia character wasn't irritating enough already, this newly calculative Mia is actually making me feel sorry for Gabi, which only makes her that much more irritating. I was stunned that she used Nicole's hearing as an opportunity to drive a wedge between Chad and Gabi, the same hearing that they were discussing her baby's death and the kidnapping of Will's baby sister. In doing this she not only undermined Will's importance in her life, but Sydney and Grace's as well...and p

Bad Goodbye: GH

Words cannot express how much I hate the way GH is writing Steve Burton out of the show. I realize his leaving sort of came as a surprise, but in my opinion they could have given him a better send off than the one he is getting. It feels extremely rushed and quite frankly a little convoluted. First of all we have Bernie with his sudden hand-wringing over something that supposedly happened almost a year ago; and he just has to meet Jason on the night he finally reunites with Sam...on the pier no less.  And don't even get me started on how Joe Scully and "Duke Lavery" are involved in all of this. Up until a few months ago Joe was an antiques dealer working in a little known shop that probably wasn't even being used as a front. In addition there is no way Jason would ever allow himself to be shot in the back. He would have looked around the pier to make sure he wasn't walking into an ambush before ever trying to talk to Bernie. However the most upsetting thing about

Darkness and Light: GH

Like many General Hospital fans, I watch the show everyday in a blissful state of denial, never acknowledging the fact that Sonny and Jason are criminals. I find it easy to denounce Mac when he is urging Maxie to stay away from Spinelli, and I cheer for Diane whenever she keeps someone from the Corinthos organization from going to prison. However, as I watched the events of the week unfold, knowing that they were inevitably going to lead to Dante's shooting, my rose-colored glasses came off and I quickly snapped back to reality. I found myself repulsed watching Jason standing in the church during Josslyn's christening, knowing that he had just signed Dante's death certificate without giving it a second thought. I was even repulsed by Spinelli, whose detective work set everything into motion. Moreover, I was sickened by his cavalier attitude regarding Dante's imminent demise, and the fact that he never showed an ounce of remorse or regret until Maxie told him that Lulu h
