UPDATE: Youthful Daze Creator Bryan James Suing GH's Bryan Craig

UPDATE : Bryan Craig reached out to me today via e-mail. He says he cannot talk about the case, but that the allegations are untrue.  If you are following General Hospital's Bryan Craig on twitter you probably saw this tweet:  If you are like me you wondered what it was all about, particularly since Youthful Daze seems to have no shortage of high profile actors wanting to be on the show. Clicking on the tweet to see the replies revealed that Craig is apparently being sued by the show's creator, Bryan James. Further details were difficult to find, so I went right to the source and talked to Bryan James about his lawsuit.  According to him, Bryan Craig was under contract with Youthful Daze and was paid a sum total of $20,000 in advance. A problem arose when, according to James, Bryan started making excuses not to come in to work. James accuses him of being in breach of contract for that and for not promoting the show, which is apparently also included in the contr

Paula's Pick: L.A. Macabre

For several months now I have been communicating with a lovely young actress on twitter named Kacy Tiller. She recently told me about this web series called L.A. Macabre   and I finally got a chance to sit down and watch it. As you know I watch a lot of shows on television and the web and I have to tell you this is the most innovative show I have seen on either medium in a while. L.A. Macabre is where reality and fiction collide in a smart, savvy, heart racing docu-style series. It brings notorious real-life crime stories from Los Angeles to the forefront of people's minds by spinning fictional tales that are eerily similar. The series begins with the characters trying to make a documentary about a disbanded cult; but on the quest for a story, they become the story themselves when former cult members begin stalking and harassing them. Because of the show's strategic use of web cams, night vision devices, and computers we experience things as they do, and feel everyth

Paula's Soapbox LIVE: Bryan James Interview

Paula's Pick: South Beach

The last few nights I have been catching up on South Beach. You may recall this is the Hulu original series starring soap opera faves Jacqueline MacInnes Wood (Steffy, B&B) and Jordi Vilasuso (Tony, GL; Griffin, AMC). South Beach is dark, gritty, sexy, and every bit a soap opera. It's like General Hospital on steroids, crossed with Empire, with elements of every primetime crime drama mixed in for good measure.  Vilasuso is very convincing in his role as ruthless mobster Isaac Santero, claiming his territory on South Beach. Sweet, gentle, good-hearted Tony he is not. As you might imagine, a storyline like this includes violence; but perhaps the most violent aspect of this show is what the audience doesn't really see. The prospect of a serial killer is introduced almost immediately and it looks like one of the main characters has already become a victim.  Jacqueline MacInnes Wood plays Samantha Lear, the daughter of a record executive, who hooks up with one of he

Paula's Pick: Weight

With all of the tweeting I have done this past year, and the interviews I have conducted with Martha Byrne about her new web series Weight, it probably seemed like a given that this would be my latest 'pick'. However, I would not take the time to devote an entire post to anything I didn't fully believe in. Weight premiered Sunday, August 2nd, and I'm happy to say that it exceeded my expectations. I knew the show would be funny and entertaining. How could a show about a weight loss reality show contestant not be? Daryn Strauss has created something so much more than a laugh-a-minute sitcom though. This show carries much more, dare I say, weight than that. The idea behind this show is inspired. Strauss has created a world that allows viewers to peek behind the curtain, offering a glimpse at one woman's so called Cinderella story. We get to see what happens after the happily ever after. Three time Emmy winning actress, Martha Byrne plays Claire, a woman who compet

Paula's Pick: The Misselthwaite Archives (UPDATED)

UPDATE: The Indiegogo campaign for this series has officially begun and there are great perks for donating! Make a contribution at https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/the-misselthwaite-archives As most of you know, in my spare time, I check out a lot of web serials and I love telling you about my new discoveries. Many people still think that if something airs online the quality must be low. I'm hoping to change that misconception, one review at a time. My most recent discovery is a web series called The Misselthwaite Archives. From the show's title it may not be immediately clear to some viewers what it's about, but it's definitely worth your time to check out. The show is described as a modern-day adaptation of The Secret Garden by Frances Hodgson Burnett, which is right up my alley. Everyone knows I'm a sucker for shows that infuse fairy tales or classic pieces of literature into their storytelling. The Misselthwaite Archives isn't a straight-forward

Classic Alice Needs Our Help!

You may remember a post I wrote last year about a web series called Classic Alice. Soon after that post I interviewed show creator and actress Kate Hackett, who plays Alice Rackham. I then went on to interview cast member Chris O'Brien who plays Ewan McBay. (You can view both of these below). The series just wrapped season 1 and the cast and crew are hoping to raise enough money for season 2. So far they have raised about $12,000 of their $60,000 goal.
