Paula's Pick: Weight

With all of the tweeting I have done this past year, and the interviews I have conducted with Martha Byrne about her new web series Weight, it probably seemed like a given that this would be my latest 'pick'. However, I would not take the time to devote an entire post to anything I didn't fully believe in.

Weight premiered Sunday, August 2nd, and I'm happy to say that it exceeded my expectations. I knew the show would be funny and entertaining. How could a show about a weight loss reality show contestant not be? Daryn Strauss has created something so much more than a laugh-a-minute sitcom though. This show carries much more, dare I say, weight than that. The idea behind this show is inspired. Strauss has created a world that allows viewers to peek behind the curtain, offering a glimpse at one woman's so called Cinderella story. We get to see what happens after the happily ever after.

Three time Emmy winning actress, Martha Byrne plays Claire, a woman who competes on a reality show called "The Weigh Off", where she loses about 100 lbs. in 3 months. Her return home isn't quite as triumphant as she might have imagined though. Her entire family has a lot of difficulty adjusting to this new, skinnier version of Claire, which promises to make keeping the weight off a challenge. Byrne's performance is as insightful as you might imagine given her extraordinary talent, so one cannot help but sympathize with Claire and root for her as she continues her journey.

With an all-star cast, Weight promises to be a favorite, a standard by which all web serials will undoubtedly be set. I really believe Strauss has broken new ground in the world of online entertainment and I look forward to seeing what the future holds for Claire and Weight.

Weight also stars Bradley White, Allison Smith, Peyton Ella, Kate West, Dee Freeman, Trent Dawson, and Maitely Weismann.

The pilot episode was directed by Frederick King Keller (director/producer Blue Bloods & 24).

The work is not over yet! Weight still needs help! If you liked the show, share as much as you can. Monetary contributions are still being accepted as well at http://www.weighttheseries.com/how-to-contribute.html

My New Obsession: L.A. Macabre

I can't believe it has almost been five years since I first told you about the web series L.A. Macabre .  As you may recall, L.A. Macabre is very much a show within a show, where the main characters have a web series called L.A. Macabre, which explores notorious, real-life crime stories in Los Angeles.  The focus of that show soon shifts to a former cult called "The New Family," bringing a lot of unwanted attention to Ryan, Jamie, and Colin, the show's creators.  This ultimately leads to Jamie's mysterious disappearance in the last episode of season 1. Ryan Bartley (Jamie) in Season 2 of L.A. Macabre Recently, I had the privilege of getting a sneak peek of L.A. Macabre's long-awaited second season and all I can say is WOW! As impressed as I was by the show's first season, season two surpassed all of my expectations. Everything is bigger this season - the show's settings, the storyline, and the exceptionally talented cast. I particul...
