Soapy Christmas

If there is one thing I enjoy more than watching soaps it is watching soaps during the week of Christmas, particularly on Christmas Eve. I suppose it has something to do with the fact that while soap families are celebrating onscreen, I am immersed in my own traditions, often making preparations for family reunions as a soap opera plays in the background. For this reason many of my Christmas memories are inextricably tied to watching soaps. And since I have been watching them since childhood, these memories are in abundance. There really is no other genre quite like this one, one that understands history, family, and traditions, and takes at least one day out of the year to showcase their importance through the eyes of viewers. And with that in mind I wish all my readers a very Merry Christmas!

Happy Christmas! Merry Holidays! I finally watched yesterday's GH episode (kid's back from college what do you do?). All I can say is watch out for that mistletoe!

  2. Hi, Paula!

I couldn't agree with you more! There's something about wathching the soaps during Christmas week, Christmas Eve AND New Year's Eve.

Merry Christmas to you, my soap friend, and to all the other participants of this board!

  5. Hi Paula!
I've been MIA from the soap blogs - mine too - for the past week....tis the season, eh?
I like your nostalgic soapy Christmas remembrances - and I think all us lovers of the genre have fond memories of soaps being tied to every stage of our lives.
I hope you and all your readers had a Merry Christmas and that you have a very happy and prosperous New Year!

  6. Hi Michele!

Yes, tis the season to be busy! :) A lot of the storylines have kind of been in suspension the past two weeks too with all the pre-empted episodes and those reserved for the holidays. Hopefully the momentum will pick back up next week though.

I hope you had a Merry Christmas too and that you have a very happy and healthy new year! Looking forward to reading your posts in the coming year! :)

  7. I agree that it is wonderful watching soaps during the holidays, but I was very disappointed in GH's holiday episodes this year...especially thier Christmas Eve episode. I had been looking forward to it since Thanksgiving, and it totally did not deliver. It was very boring to watch. I know there is not a lot of happy things going on right now, but come on. The whole thing with Mac and Alexis getting stuck...bleh. Even Maxie and Spinelli were boring. I could go on forever, but I'll just say that I was very disappointed.

    Hi Anonymous!

I agree, the GH Christmas episode could have been better. I thought last year's was really good with Spixie and Santa, typical soap Christmas episode. Here's a link to a clip:

Could Guiding Light Alum Stephanie Gatschet Be Looking to Return to Daytime?

I stumbled upon something interesting while scrolling through Instagram last night. It was a comment posted in response to a General Hospital video. The video was reposted by actress Laura Wright (Carly, GH; ex-Cassie,GL). The response came from actress Stephanie Gatschet.

You may recall that in addition to playing Madison North on All My Children, Gatschet played Cassie's daughter, Tammy, on Guiding Light.

Gatschet's comment to Wright was "I miss creating melodrama...keep an eye out for a good role for little ol' me. I wanna play!"  (Check out the screenshot below)

So could Gatschet be eyeing a return to daytime? How cool would it be to see her starring opposite Laura Wright again?

Gatschet most recently starred in the web series Misguided.

GL Alum Launches Indiegogo Campaign for Music Video!

UPDATE: Morgan Englund's Indiegogo campaign is now 76% funded. To meet his goal, $2,418 will need to be donated by June 2nd.

To hear Morgan talk about his song Homeward Bound, be sure to check out my interview with him from last week at https://youtu.be/5Dyq4Tc7H-Y

Guiding Light alum Morgan Englund (Dylan Lewis) has launched an Indiegogo campaign to help fund a music video for a song he wrote called "Homeward Bound (A Firefighter's Song)", a fitting title and song for the actor who has worked as both a firefighter and paramedic.

Englund is hoping to raise $10,000 for the creation of the video, which will be directed by Andrea Shreeman. So far $3,199 has been donated to the campaign with a month left to go. Numerous perks are up for grabs for those wishing to contribute to the video's funding. $5 will get you a thank you shout out on social media from Englund, while the biggest perk, at $1500, will earn you an executive producer credit and a VIP visit to the set.
