Excusable Indiscretions: GH

Well it appears that we have finally arrived at the beginning of the Spencer/Cassadine storyline. And while I hate to judge it before it has even started, I am not sure I am going to be fond of any storyline that serves as an extension of the Nik/Liz/Lucky triangle. In principle this triangle could have been a good plot point if it had been written as an intriguing story about a woman in love with two brothers with a complicated history. Instead it has been twisted and distorted so that it now appears that the only reason Liz cheated on Lucky is because she suddenly lost her mind. This is not only inconsistent with the way Liz and Nik's affair began but it is an insult to the intelligence of every viewer who remembers Liz cheating on Lucky with Jason. At that time Lucky was addicted to pain pills and sleeping with Maxie, yet Liz's mental stability remained intact even as she carried Jason's child and hid the paternity from Lucky. Liz's current pregnancy makes me believe that she will ultimately have Lucky's child, effectively bringing the two of them back together as if nothing happened. If this storyline does indeed play out in this way, I am sure that will make for a lot of happy viewers, at least momentarily, until the next time Liz finds another excuse to cheat on Lucky.

  1. Yay, Paula!

With all due respect, I'm thinking that Liz went nuts when she realized how much she had messed things up, instead of the results of cheating on Lucky with Nikolas. But still, I took a bit of offense at Robin's post partum depression being compared to Liz's meltdown. Two different things.

The only other thing, and this is from personal experience - geez, no mental facility would allow the stream of visitors that Liz had. But hey, it's soapie land!

  2. Cheers Paula!

I can't agree more! This storyline just keeps getting worse! I hated it from day one and now the saga continues - and not in a good way.

The writers TOTALLY trashed Liz's character - and now she has a mental breakdown for some sympathy? I have to say that I did feel a little bit of sympathy for her when she had those meltdowns in the hospital.

I just hope that Lucky and Liz Don't get back together again down the road. Enuf with those two already. Let's move on!

    Excellent commentary, Paula!

  3. Michele,

You and me both! And who in their right mind would send anyone to Shadybrook when it never ends well? I hope that Lucky doesn't go to back to Liz out of pity because we all know that doesn't work.

I don't agree with this. Liz said herself that her feelings for both of them is what drove her to SB. We still don't know if her past has anything to do with why she seems to have low self-esteem right now. And just because Liz didn't fall apart when Lucky was on pills and she strayed with Jason doesn't mean she can't now. Isn't that what we complain about, storyline redeux? If she went batty every time she cheated or whatever, she'd need a permanent room at SB. Liz isn't any different that any other character on the show in terms of cheating so I don't get why people are always harping on her. I really believe that she and Lucky are soulmates however their tainted past (beginning with the fire and moving all the way to the Niz affair), is what's being showcased here. I think we will get to see them tear down the walls that each of them built up and they will eventually be back together stronger than ever.

  5. Hi Peggy,

Yes, I really do not like the comparisons they are making about Liz and Robin.

Yeah, the stream of visitors thing is unbelievable.

  6. Hi Michele!

Yeah, I agree, the whole mental breakdown thing seems to be a ploy to garner sympathy for Liz. I can't seem to get past the snarky comments and evil glances she was making at people just a few short weeks ago, namely Lulu. That doesn't sound like someone who is having a mental breakdown, it sounds like someone who doesn't want to make apologies for their behavior.

I also agree that they need to move on from the Lucky/Liz thing for a while or at least not allow them to get back together based on the fact that Liz needs rescuing again. Their relationship has to be based on more than just Liz being a victim and Lucky feeling compelled to help her.

  7. Hi Anonymous!

Please understand that it was not my intention to "harp on" Liz for cheating on Lucky. I just have issues with the way this character is being portrayed because on any given day I am not sure whether I am supposed to feel sorry for her or be mad at her. The show seems to want viewers to see Liz as this virtuous woman, yet they insist on making her do things that make her unsympathetic. I have no doubt that Lucky and Liz will get back together down the road, I just wish they could go about reuniting them a different way. The Liz being a victim and Lucky rescuing her scenario is getting a little old in my opinion.

  8. Paula,

I think we are sharing the same brain on this particular story line!

I agree with you 100% on everything from the blog itself to your comments.

LnL2, at this point, really just need to move on from each other and simply co-exist as the parents of Cameron and Jake. I don't care if the baby Liz is carrying is Lucky's - they both need to look long and hard at their past and realize they can never recapture what they had before Lucky "died" in the fire.

All About Mia: DOOL

After months of allowing herself to be deceived and manipulated by Nicole and Stefano so that she could keep her baby's adoption intact, only to find out that said baby wasn't hers because her baby had died, one would think that Mia would have enough drama to last a lifetime. Instead it seems that she has picked up a few bad habits from Nicole because she has turned to manipulating Gabi in order to stake her claim on Chad, someone she didn't seem to want a few weeks ago. As if the Mia character wasn't irritating enough already, this newly calculative Mia is actually making me feel sorry for Gabi, which only makes her that much more irritating. I was stunned that she used Nicole's hearing as an opportunity to drive a wedge between Chad and Gabi, the same hearing that they were discussing her baby's death and the kidnapping of Will's baby sister. In doing this she not only undermined Will's importance in her life, but Sydney and Grace's as well...and p

Bad Goodbye: GH

Words cannot express how much I hate the way GH is writing Steve Burton out of the show. I realize his leaving sort of came as a surprise, but in my opinion they could have given him a better send off than the one he is getting. It feels extremely rushed and quite frankly a little convoluted. First of all we have Bernie with his sudden hand-wringing over something that supposedly happened almost a year ago; and he just has to meet Jason on the night he finally reunites with Sam...on the pier no less.  And don't even get me started on how Joe Scully and "Duke Lavery" are involved in all of this. Up until a few months ago Joe was an antiques dealer working in a little known shop that probably wasn't even being used as a front. In addition there is no way Jason would ever allow himself to be shot in the back. He would have looked around the pier to make sure he wasn't walking into an ambush before ever trying to talk to Bernie. However the most upsetting thing about
