Farewell to Possibilities: GH

Remember last week when the only victims of the GH storylines were the viewers? Well, all of that changed as of this afternoon when soapoperadigest.com announced that fan favorite Rebecca Herbst (Liz) had been "let go." Apparently her exit, like so many, is storyline dictated. This makes me wonder what possible storyline could be worth firing Rebecca Herbst over?

I'll admit that I am not a huge Liz fan. I don't necessarily dislike the character, she just sometimes has a tendency to get on my nerves. However I still consider her to be an essential part of the show. In fact given many of the characters who are currently in front burner storylines I would say Liz is the last character who should exit the screen.

To get rid of a character like Liz (I'm all but certain this is not a recast situation) in the presence of so many new and annoying characters is tragic. This not only eliminates the possibility of a future Liason reunion, but of a Liz/Lucky reunion as well. And where does that leave the Aiden paternity storyline? Is Lucky going to be left to raise all three of Liz's kids with Siobhan and her annoying accent? Or will Jason and Sam raise Jake? Or will Liz leave town with all three of her kids without knowing that Aiden is Lucky's? I'm sure Nikolas would never miss Aiden since he already has one child he ignores. Something tells me though that Liz's exit is not going to be as simple as her deciding to leave town with her kids. My unfortunate prediction is that Liz will become the victim of a horrific crime; and given this show's history I would say that is a definite possibilty.

  1. Paula,

OMG I don't want to watch. She was one of my favorite characters. Who's going to protect Robin from Lisa without Liz around?

  2. Hi Peggy!

Good point! I guess Maxie will have to come around GH more often! lol! Seriously though I can't believe they are getting rid of Liz and subjecting us to the Lisa saga.

  3. Paula,

I guess there's no way a bunch of us could protest this and get Rebecca back, is there? I just read some tweets from the other actors and they aren't too happy.

  4. Hi Peggy!

I seriously doubt it. A lot of actors didn't seem too happy about Drew Garrett's exit either. There were petitions and protests from fans that gained attention in his hometown news and nothing changed. I think it would take someone with real pull to be able to reverse this decision.

  5. I'm afraid you may be right about the way they will have Liz exit. Otherwise, it does leave too many loose ends like Aidan's paternity. Liz isn't one of my favorites now like she once was, but it still will leave a hole in the canvas.

  6. Yes, I have a horrible feeling too...that something awful is going to happen to our beloved "Elizabeth"
Well, that's ok...cause if that happens, it ought to take Guza all of 2 weeks to bring her back as a ghost!! (Lord help us all!)

  7. Hi ta1231!

I agree! Liz hasn't been very likable for a while, but her presence will still be missed on the show.

  8. Well I was very shocked to find out they were pushing Liz out. I agree with you and the others as to the question of how they are going to tie up the loose ends of Aiden's paternity. I also wonder how they are going to have her exit and when. I honestly don't like the way they are portraying her right now. She is just being TOO desperate with Nikolas and I wasn't a Liason fan. I am a Jasam fan all the way. I guess what I am saying is .. In my eyes she wont be missed.

  9. Hi Dori!

Thanks for commenting! I hope you come by often!

Oh I hope she doesn't get brought back as a ghost, but that would fit the pattern we are used to.

  10. Hi Soap Life!

I agree, Liz hasn't been very likable in a long time but I do think it's a shame that she is no longer going to be on the show. I still considered the character to be an asset even if she did get on my nerves from time to time.

  11. Liz was the only woman besides Robin that I ever 'related' or empathized with at all! The powers that be at ABC are idiots, they do not know how to 'write' story's for the long time fans of their shows. GH has been unwatchable in my opinion for about 3 years now! When they made jason forgive the heinous actions of sam they ruined him for this fan. Never buy that he 'forgave' such crap. Lame agenda driven writing at its finest! Well GH hope you can survive MORE fans leaving because you have lost quite a few with this idiotic decision.
    Adio's GH and hello Y&R!

  12. Hi Jackie!

GH has been in a bit of a slump for a while now. And you are certainly not the only one upset by the decision to let Rebecca Herbst go. See the post Positive Solutions if you would like information on how to voice your concerns about her firing. As for Y&R, it hit a bit of a slump as well a few years ago. Unfortunately bad storylines don't seem to be exclusive to GH.

  13. i heard that guza makes $30,000 a week, (1.5 mil roughly) to write this misogynist crap, along with fronz making way more than that. fronz and guza should be cut off, use it to improve gh, hire RH back and make Sri Rao as HW. save gh`s sinking ship before these two completely destroy it, jmo......

All About Mia: DOOL

After months of allowing herself to be deceived and manipulated by Nicole and Stefano so that she could keep her baby's adoption intact, only to find out that said baby wasn't hers because her baby had died, one would think that Mia would have enough drama to last a lifetime. Instead it seems that she has picked up a few bad habits from Nicole because she has turned to manipulating Gabi in order to stake her claim on Chad, someone she didn't seem to want a few weeks ago. As if the Mia character wasn't irritating enough already, this newly calculative Mia is actually making me feel sorry for Gabi, which only makes her that much more irritating. I was stunned that she used Nicole's hearing as an opportunity to drive a wedge between Chad and Gabi, the same hearing that they were discussing her baby's death and the kidnapping of Will's baby sister. In doing this she not only undermined Will's importance in her life, but Sydney and Grace's as well...and p

Bad Goodbye: GH

Words cannot express how much I hate the way GH is writing Steve Burton out of the show. I realize his leaving sort of came as a surprise, but in my opinion they could have given him a better send off than the one he is getting. It feels extremely rushed and quite frankly a little convoluted. First of all we have Bernie with his sudden hand-wringing over something that supposedly happened almost a year ago; and he just has to meet Jason on the night he finally reunites with Sam...on the pier no less.  And don't even get me started on how Joe Scully and "Duke Lavery" are involved in all of this. Up until a few months ago Joe was an antiques dealer working in a little known shop that probably wasn't even being used as a front. In addition there is no way Jason would ever allow himself to be shot in the back. He would have looked around the pier to make sure he wasn't walking into an ambush before ever trying to talk to Bernie. However the most upsetting thing about
